Chris Hemsworth is getting back into fighting shape for another dangerous mission as filming on Netflix’s Extraction 3 continues.
The Australian actor has given fans a glimpse of the physical preparation behind his return as Tyler Rake, sharing footage of himself undergoing an intense combat-training session in Thailand.
In the video, Hemsworth can be seen working with Thai trainer Jack Boonsanong inside a boxing ring. The session includes pad work, combinations, movement drills and kicks, highlighting the kind of physical conditioning required for his return to the franchise.
Hemsworth confirmed that the training is taking place alongside production on the third Extraction movie, thanking Boonsanong for helping him prepare for the latest chapter of Tyler Rake’s story.
The actor’s preparation comes as no surprise. The Extraction films have become known for their brutal hand-to-hand combat, elaborate stunts and physically demanding action sequences, with Hemsworth performing much of the work required to bring Rake to life.
Interestingly, the Thailand training also comes at a time when Hemsworth has spoken about his interest in mixed martial arts. Earlier this year, he revealed that part of him would like to compete in an actual MMA fight, although he acknowledged the very real possibility of getting seriously beaten in the process. His current training, however, is connected to his acting work rather than any confirmed professional fight.
For Extraction 3, Hemsworth will once again be joined by Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani. Sam Hargrave, who directed the first two films, is also returning behind the camera, while David Weil has taken over screenwriting duties for the new installment.
Netflix has yet to reveal the full plot of Extraction 3, keeping the details of Tyler Rake’s next mission largely under wraps. Production has been taking place in Australia and Thailand, suggesting that the franchise is once again preparing to take its action across multiple international locations.
The first two Extraction movies became major successes for Netflix, with both films reaching No. 1 on the streamer’s global Top 10 for English-language movies. With Hemsworth returning and Hargrave once again directing, the third installment appears set to continue the franchise’s emphasis on large-scale, practical action.
A release date for Extraction 3 has not yet been announced by Netflix.
