Wesley Snipes’ “Blade” Break Two Guinness World Records mobilecinemanetwork.com, 13 August 202413 August 2024 Warning! Spoilers Ahead For “Deadpool and Wolverine” Wesley Snipes’ Blade has successfully broken two Guinness World Records. Guinness World Records certifies that the actor, who played the half-vampire “daywalker” in Deadpool & Wolverine, had the longest career as a live-action Marvel character. Snipes’ return comes 25 years and 240 days after he originally portrayed the character in 1998’s Blade, defeating co-star Hugh Jackman in the process. After playing Wolverine for the first time in 2000’s X-Men, Jackman was expected to surpass Sir Patrick Stewart’s record for playing Professor X/Charles Xavier when Deadpool 3 was released, but Snipes’ unexpected appearance in the movie ensured that never happened. Guinness World Records tabulations show that Blade’s unexpected debut in the movie also broke the record for the longest interval between character appearances in Marvel films. The last time Snipes played the role was in Blade: Trinity (2004), which came out 19 years and 231 days before the Shawn Levy film. He overcame Alfred Molina’s 17-year span between his role as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 and his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Alongside Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and X-23 (Dafne Keen), Snipes’ Blade teams up with the main heroes to take on Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and her mutant creatures. Reynolds praised Snipes on Twitter on Monday, August 5, after his cameo: “There is no Fox Marvel Universe or MCU without Blade first creating a market. He’s Marvel Daddy. Please retweet for a Logan-like send off. #DeadpoolAndWolverine.” Despite Marvel’s attempts to reboot the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali, the project has been plagued by delays and setbacks. Wesley Snipes, the original Blade, jokingly commented on the situation in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” suggesting that he remains the definitive Blade in fans’ minds. Despite losing its director Yann Demange in June, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the Blade film is still in development and is expected to maintain its R rating, even though the project has faced delays.
