“Superman & Lois” Stars Tease Emotional Ending

Prepare for an emotional conclusion to Superman & Lois Season 4 as the stars of the show hint at a very intense series finale. This fall marks the official end of the Arrowverse, with Superman & Lois being the last show standing from Greg Berlanti’s DC TV universe. The final season, which premieres on Monday, October 7, will consist of just 10 episodes, making it the shortest season of the series.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, and showrunner Brent Fletcher discussed Superman & Lois Season 4, while also hinting at how the series will wrap up. Although they are saddened by the show ending after just four seasons, the trio assured fans that the series finale will be highly emotional and filled with unexpected surprises, stating the following:

Tyler Hoechlin : I still didn’t know the actual ending until we got pretty close to it. We had discussed potential endings throughout the various seasons, what we thought would be kind of cool, and even up until about halfway through the season, I was still wondering which direction they were going to go. I think they’ve done a beautiful job of saying something poignant,

Brent Fletcher : I don’t think people are going to think we’re ending the show the way that we are. When it ends and the credits come up, they’re going to be surprised.

Elizabeth Tulloch : [It’s] a very emotional episode. There will be closure, and everyone’s going to be crying in the final episode of the series. I did.

It’s important to remember that from the very beginning, Superman & Lois has consistently defied expectations for a show centered around the Man of Steel and Lois Lane. By focusing on Clark and Lois later in their lives, including their role as parents to teenage boys, the series has enjoyed the freedom to explore the mythology in new ways while adding its own unique layers. This is why Fletcher’s remarks about delivering a “surprising” series finale are not unexpected, hinting that the conclusion of Superman & Lois could take several unpredictable directions.

Though it’s just a theory, it wouldn’t be surprising if Superman & Lois Season 4 concludes with Clark deciding to step down as the Man of Tomorrow and possibly passing his legacy on to Jordan Kent. Since Jordan developed his powers, the show has focused heavily on his journey to become a hero, learning from his father. It would make perfect sense if the series finale sees Clark transitioning into a mentor role for Jordan as the new Superman, while gradually retiring himself. This aligns with Fletcher’s comment, “I don’t think people are going to think we’re ending the show the way that we are.”

With just a few episodes left in the final season, it remains to be seen how the general audience will react to the Superman & Lois series finale. Although an exact date hasn’t been confirmed, the fourth season is expected to conclude sometime in November or December. In the meantime, DC fans can anticipate the two-hour premiere of Superman & Lois Season 4, which is just under a month away.
