"Ready Player One" To Become A Reality In The Metaverse

“Ready Player One”, a sci-fi novel emerged in 2011 and was later adapted into a film by Steven Spielberg in 2018. The story follows Wade Watts in a future America (2045) where a resource-depleted world leads humanity to seek refuge in a virtual reality platform known as the OASIS. This vast network enables users to craft their own virtual realms, often drawing inspiration from popular 1980s video games and movies.

According to Variety, Futureverse recently revealed that Readyverse Studios—co-founded by Ernest Cline (author of “Ready Player One”) and producer Dan Farah—has joined forces with Warner Bros. Discovery. The goal: to introduce a version of the OASIS into the metaverse in 2024. Although specifics regarding the involved intellectual properties and operational details remain undisclosed, the initiative is being promoted as “a multi-world, multi-IP, interoperable open metaverse experience.”

Although the Ready Player One metaverse’s features are currently unknown, the company says it plans to launch in 2024. “Readyverse Studios is laying the groundwork to bring the promise of the open metaverse depicted in Cline’s ‘Ready Player One’ novel and the blockbuster film adaptation into a tangible reality: a multi-world, multi-IP, interoperable open metaverse experience for mass consumers,” the company said.

According to Shara Senderoff and Aaron McDonald, the co-founders of Futureverse, “The Readyverse will champion the principles of the open metaverse, which are provable digital ownership, community-owned infrastructure, decentralization, security and interoperability.”

“The future has arrived even more quickly than I imagined,” Cline revealed in a statement. “With Readyverse Studios, we have the opportunity to leverage the revolutionary technology Futureverse has been building for several years to bring to life the best possible version of the metaverse. I’m confident with this team, we have the brightest minds and biggest hearts in place to lead us into the next chapter of our collective future… a future that would make Wade Watts and James Halliday proud.”

Farah also said, “Readyverse Studios will offer exciting new metaverse opportunities for Hollywood studios, talent, and brands to create new revenue streams and creative outlets for brand expansion while offering consumers the ability to enjoy the promise of the open metaverse.”

Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” movie, which starred Tye Sheridan as the movie’s hero Wade Watts, took home $583 million at the box office worldwide.
