“Peaky Blinders” Star Joins Jason Statham In New Action Thriller

Jason Statham is set to star in the movie Mutiny, which has also brought in a female lead from Peaky Blinders. Directed by Jean-François Richet, who previously directed the 2023 film Plane, Mutiny follows Statham’s character, Cole Reed, a man on the run after being wrongfully accused of murdering his billionaire boss. Statham is producing this action-packed thriller through his new company, Punch Palace Productions, with Marc Butan co-producing via MadRiver Pictures. The script for Mutiny was written by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis, who also wrote Plane.

According to Deadline, Annabelle Wallis, known for her role as Grace Shelby on Peaky Blinders, has joined Jason Statham in the movie Mutiny. It’s still unknown what character Wallis will play in the film. Filming for Mutiny is scheduled to begin in the UK this fall, but the release date has not been announced yet.

While Annabelle Wallis is widely recognized for her role in Peaky Blinders, she has also appeared in several notable films, making her a great addition to Mutiny. She played the lead in the 2021 horror movie Malignant, directed by James Wan, which received positive reviews. Wallis has also had roles in movies like Tag (2018), Annabelle: Creation (2017), The Mummy (2017), and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017).

Jason Statham has been a dependable lead in the action genre for many years, starring in successful films like The Transporter (2002), The Meg (2018), and The Beekeeper (2024). Directed by David Ayer, The Beekeeper received some of the best reviews Statham has had in years, with a solid 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was also the first major box office hit of the year, though its total earnings of $153 million are modest compared to some of the larger blockbusters released since.

While many details about Mutiny are still unknown, the film appears to be in line with the mid-budget action thrillers that Jason Statham has become known for throughout his career. Although this upcoming movie might not be an unexpected choice for Statham, it has the potential to be an enjoyable experience, particularly since Jean-François Richet’s last film, Plane, was unexpectedly well-received. With Richet, Annabelle Wallis, and Statham all coming off successful recent projects, Mutiny is already positioned for success.
