“Inside Out 2” Sets Huge Record mobilecinemanetwork.com, 26 August 202426 August 2024 “Inside Out 2” has grossed over $1 billion in earnings at the international box office, making it one of only 12 movies—and the sole animated one—to reach this significant milestone. Although 55 films have earned $1 billion globally (including both domestic and international sales), only 12 have reached this level solely from overseas markets, with 11 of those being live-action films. Disney’s 2019 remake of “The Lion King” brought in an impressive $1.1 billion internationally, but since the studio classifies it as a live-action film rather than an animated one, “Inside Out 2” is technically the first animated movie to enter this exclusive group. Reaching the $1 billion mark shows that “Inside Out 2” has connected with audiences around the world. However, its top international markets are Mexico ($102.2 million), Brazil ($80 million), the U.K. ($72.7 million), France ($62.6 million), and Korea ($60.8 million). Disney’s Pixar sequel has already become the highest-grossing movie of the year, earning $1.649 billion worldwide, with $1.002 billion from international markets and $646.3 million from domestic sales. A few weeks ago, “Inside Out 2” surpassed “Frozen II” to become the highest-grossing animated film in history. Disney had a successful summer with two films surpassing the billion-dollar mark, including the Marvel superhero sequel “Deadpool & Wolverine.” To highlight the box office strength of “Inside Out 2” among international audiences, “Deadpool & Wolverine” earned just over half that amount—a significant $634.1 million—in the same markets. However, it’s important to note that “Deadpool & Wolverine” is rated R, which theoretically limits its audience to those 18 and older. With $1.21 billion earned worldwide so far, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has become the eighth-highest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, surpassing “Captain America: Civil War” ($1.155 billion). It’s expected to soon overtake “Iron Man 3” ($1.215 billion) and move into the No. 7 spot. Another major Disney release, “Alien: Romulus,” brought in $41.6 million internationally and $57.8 million globally over the weekend, raising its total worldwide earnings to $225.4 million. This latest installment in the long-running sci-fi horror franchise is one of the few Hollywood films to connect with Chinese audiences post-pandemic, where it has earned $73.3 million so far.
